Absolute Expediency and Imitative Behaviour
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper analyses a model of learning by imitation, where besides the decision maker, there is a population of individuals facing the same decision problem. We analyse a property called Absolute Expediency, which requires that the decision maker’s expected payo¤ increases from one round to the next for every decision problem and every state of the population. We give a simple characterisation of the expediency property and show that its basic feature is proportional imitation: the change in the probability attached to the played action is proportional to the di¤erence between the received and the sampled payo¤ (the sampled payo¤ plays the role of an aspiration level).

Absolutely expedient imitative behavior
This paper analyzes a model of learning by imitation, where besides the decision maker, there is a population of individuals facing the same decision problem. We analyze a property called Absolute Expediency, which requires that the decision maker’s expected payo¤ increases from one round to the next for every decision problem and every profile of realized actions taken by the population. We gi...
متن کاملThe progress drive hypothesis: an interpretation of early imitation
Children seem to have a natural tendency to imitate and their interest for particular kinds of imitative behaviour varies greatly with the infant’s age. We argue that different forms of children’s early imitation may be the result of an intrinsic motivation system driving the infant into situations of maximal learning progress. We present a computational model showing how an agent can learn to ...
متن کاملImitation: is cognitive neuroscience solving the correspondence problem?
Imitation poses a unique problem: how does the imitator know what pattern of motor activation will make their action look like that of the model? Specialist theories suggest that this correspondence problem has a unique solution; there are functional and neurological mechanisms dedicated to controlling imitation. Generalist theories propose that the problem is solved by general mechanisms of as...
متن کاملMonotonic Mixing of Decision Strategies for Agent-Based Bargaining
In automated bargaining a common method to obtain complex concession behaviour is to mix individual tactics, or decision functions, by a linear weighted combination. In such systems, the negotiation process between agents using mixed strategies with imitative and non-imitative tactics is highly dynamic, and non-monotonicity in the sequence of utilities of proposed offers can emerge at any time ...
متن کاملInterpersonal Maps: How to Map Affordances for Interaction Behaviour
In a study of how the concept of affordances could be applied to interaction behaviour, we introduce the notion of “interpersonal maps”, a geometrical representation of the relationships between a set of proprioceptive and heteroceptive information sources, thus creating a common representation space for comparing one’s own behaviour and the behaviour of others. Such maps can be used to detect ...
